Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)

Atopic Dermatitis is the technical term to describe the condition that is better known by the public as eczema.  The presentation of eczema can influenced by a complex combination of genetic and environmental factors. A personal or family history of other atopic conditions (hayfever, allergies, asthma) are known risk factors.

Eczema often presents within the first two years of life.  It is not curable but it is treatable. Fortunately, many patients will improve over time but the condition can persist into adulthood.

Diligent skin care is essential in reducing the frequency and severity of flares.
